'Taking a Thread for a Walk: the Art of Doodling in Stitch'
Known for her use of bold, colourful embroidery with a tale to tell, Kathleen Murphy will introduce you to the joy of doodling in stitch. Using a free-form approach which aims to dispel some of the fears and rules often associated with traditional hand embroidery, you will work towards a contemporary stitched sampler. Along the way you will explore the idea of stitch families and thread variation as a means to creating your own stories in thread, pattern and colour. Suitable for all levels.
 Sunday 2nd July 2017
'Bostini Bugs' Brooch Making
Bostini Bugs can be found flitting in and out of the shafts of sunshine which pierce the trees in the forest near the workshop of Murgatroyd & Bean. They are highly decorative, 3-dimensional bugs who would like nothing more than to sit on your lapel and bask in the admiration of all who see them.
Over the course of the day you will be guided through a combination of simple stumpwork, applique and hand embroidery techniques to make your bug brooch come to life.
Intermediate level: suitable for those with some previous sewing experience.

The Sewcial @ theYARDartspace

A workshop to challenge and surprise! Other than knowing the day will involve creative hand stitch in some form, you will only find out what Kathleen is going to pull out of her battered suitcase and ask you to try when you arrive! This workshop will challenge you to explore a theme or hand stitch technique, it could be 2D or 3D, but often taking a sideways approach to materials.
The Sewcial is a social place and welcomes sharing so if you have something you’d like to show or tell, be it a project or an exhibition recommendation, we'd love to know about it.
Skill level: Intermediate Some previous experience of hand sewing is helpful. Those with practical skills from other making disciplines may also find this of interest.
10.00am - 4pm £70 per person. Includes materials & refreshments
In keeping with the venue policy places are not considered booked without receipt of £70 workshop fee. Non-refundable, non-transferable.
