Still Life in Stitch

"Cabbage..? Pomegranate..? And is that a strawberry I can smell..?"
Yes! These were just a few of the ingredients integral to this month's Sewcial challenge as participants considered form, texture & colour to create samplers based on a still life tableaux.
Here's a 'flavour' of some of the great results produced.
A macro photo of a pomegranate stalk provided the textural inspiration for this sampler which experiments with loops & knots...
Looped knots & Snipped Pistil stitches
Light & shade falling on a pomegranate captured in tiny tonal patches
Surface stitches add texture to a piece based on a pear

A Trapunto quilted garlic bulb in progress
Here, the pastel interior & papery nature of the garlic bulb have been captured beautifully
Last, but not least, still life with fabric, thread & cake....

Next month's Sewcial will take place on Friday 17th July at Trumpet Corner Art Studios & Tearooms.

absolutely wonderful! I love to see the things of life stitched. There is a Japanese woman who stitches fruit and fish. I will find the book and send you her name. I love the depth of your work.
