Darn, they're lovely!

You may have noticed how we love a bit of woolly thread in the Applewood workshop? So imagine our delight at uncovering this batch of vintage darning threads hidden in a floral washbag in Oxfam recently.
All manufactured in Britain, with some cards dating from the 1930's. The stocking silks are so incredibly soft and surprising robust, with great shade names like, 'Java', 'Squirrel' and 'Smoke'. We shall have great fun doing something with these but for now we will keep them on our 'Shelf of Inspiration' and enjoy looking at the labels...

They look like a mini art installation on that last photo

Oooooo, they're LOVELY LOVELY LOVELY! I'm just a little bit green with envy. What a fabulous find. I must rummage in washbags from now on! Katie x

I think the washbag pattern would have appealed to you VK...70's daisies on an orange background.
Katie - you're bound to find something to top these at Saturday's Vintage & Handmade Fair. Hope to see you there!

They ARE lovely - like little works of art. Think I'd be mounting them on a fabric backing and leaving them up on the shelf to gaze happily at in spare moments. Which apparently do exist. Somewhere!

Hi Moira! I wonder what 'vintage' items our Grandchildren will feel the urge to put on a shelf & admire in this way?
